Penultimate • last but one in a series of things
... See also: a great word that I don't use enough.
Hi friends. So, I have some news: the next edition of The Bright Side (in two weeks) will be my last one for the year.
Here’s why:
I’ve been thinking about this illustration every day since I spotted it a few weeks ago. And it resonates so powerfully as we tick towards autumn—a time when we’re programmed to yearn for new beginnings or feel the call to rest and reset.
October will mark one year of The Bright Side—woohoo! It will also mark six years since I started my freelance writing business, Amanda Wowk Creative.
While these big markers are a sign of longevity and hard work, yes, they’re also a sign to give myself a break from the latter to keep achieving the former.
During the remaining months of the year, I plan to take a few trips (finally!)—so please head on over to my Instagram where I’ll surely share those work-free moments. Then the holidays will be here—gasp, I know! Here, re-read this post from last year if the holidays stress you out in any way.
And then I plan to bring back The Bright Side in shiny new 2022. But I’ll save my parting words for two weeks’ time.
Until then, I hope you take a beat to think about the above illustration, too. Is there something calling you to rest and reset before the end of the year breezes in?
As they say… if you were looking for a sign, perhaps this is it.
Supplemental reading: I thought it’d be fun to count down the top 10 posts chosen by you, my Bright Siders. This week, let’s look at numbers 10 through 6…

8. On reading, writing, and reprioritizing
